Nonlinear Information:

In general it is the common practice to communicate between people can be called as linear information. That means it is like a straight line with a path ie. it is a path between two points A&B.
A good ex. of linear information is reading of a novel,in that you start from first page and end in the last page.By this you can understand the text, theme, character verywell. But can it be possible to read in a non linear way like reading the pages in random. If we do also we can't understand it properly. It does't mean that a non linear way creates confussion? Not at all,It depends on how you use it.It is like reading a magazine or dictionary. We can start from any page and can be stopped at any point.
This linear concept is important, because it is a part of World Wide Web and it does't exists from begining to the end

ORIGIN:

It was in 1960,Ted Nelson thought of this idea of thinking and writing, came with a version called XANADU , the first version of Hypertext.
But in 1987 Bill Atkinson a sofware designer introduced Hyper Card to the world. It was created on a interpreted language called Hyper Talk , which contain text, sound, vedio or pictures, along with buttons and it was used tocreate cards, accept mouse input from the user, act onthe input, display results.

WORLD WIDE WEB:

With this any ideas, hardware, software and working with non linear information a solution came from aEnglish Scientist TIM BERNERS LEE succeeded in fecilitating communication between scientists. His database called "Meta" database made up many databases and many computers, everybody could store datas and every body could be able to access to any data stored.
In developing his ideas, Lee made other devolopments that led to the WORLD WIDE WEB as we know it. He wrote the server and client software on his computer and distributed among his colleagues. Along with them he used protocals, and ended with URL (Uniform Resources Locaters),HTTP (Hyper Text Transport Protocol) and HTML

Level 1.0 HTML:

In 1992,Dan Connolly developed HTML 1.0 and was released in the same year.Idea of HTML container added, with HEAD element separate from BODY element. Opening and Closing tags were introduced.

HTML 2:

Increasing demands on HTML led newly formed World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to introduce HTML 2 used Forms elements with INPUT,SELECT,OPTION,TEXTAREA ,plus the BR element for line breaks. It also added META element for detailed document description which provided avenue for indexing and cataloging.

HTML 3:

HTML 3 was edited under the leadership of Dave Ragget and proposed a FIG element that supported text flow and enable hints to browsers on how to display certain text.
The ALIGN attribute was added to several elements and proposed some new logical elements including tags for inserted text, definations, quotations, subscript, superscript etc.

HTML 3.2:

HTML 3.2 was drafted in keeping the reality and incorporated many new tags like Script and Style tags to make room for scripting languages and style sheets.
It formalized practices such as text, background colour, links, sizing and spacing of images. It offered new elements and attributes that enlivened Web pages with animations, colours and sound with a establised standard.

HTML 4.0:

The latest version of HTML uses some of the ideas and changes proposed for HTML 3 that were abandoned with HTML 3.2 . HTML 4 enables separating physical styles from relying on style sheets. It also serves some of the same purpose as HTML 3.2 acknowdging current practice.
The FRAME element is now formerly defined somewhere other than Netscape and Microsoft .The W3C has introduced the OBJECT elementwith enough flexibility to ser for the future. The HTML 4 Standard includes STYLE ,DIV,and SPAN elements for incorporating style sheets, but actual specifications is a separate entity,as in Cascading Style Sheets 1.
With the introduction of HTML4.0 almost every formatting of the content as desired by the designer can be done with much ease and include stylesheets as required.
